It’s All in the Details
with Justine Mara Andersen -
Single Session Workshop
September 9, 11 am – 5 pm
There is a fine line (actually, many many lines) between creating a functionally detailed work of art and clogging the world of comics up with one more example of line pollution. In this workshop Justine will explain once and for all how she wows her viewers with detailed art by tracking her influences and talking about why the details in their work and hers works. She will teach you how the difference between clutter and clarity comes down to knowing which lines to use when. Students will learn how to incorporate meaningful details as well as details that create depth and add character rather than obscurity and yet more visual noise. Details can be used to captivate a reader and propel the storytelling process by defining characters secret lives, adding depth and humor to their surroundings, as well as drawing the viewer ever closer to the secrets you want to reveal and the stories you want to tell.
