How to run an alternative art school, week 2

Our 2018-2019 school year in our new space is up and running, and it's already a great year. 

Here's a little run down of what we did.

Week 1 - Getting Started

In my Storytelling Class, I talked about diary comics, about Sarah Glidden teaching herself comics and starting her own career, about simple ideas and simple stories. We carved out 120 seconds and all made diary comics about the same 120 seconds. 

 

 

History class looked at caricature before Hogarth, and then a little bit of Hogarth

Justine's Traditional Drawing Class saw Justine start off with a brilliant show about duality and fantasy in art. She has since made a video of it, here.

And Friday was library sorting day, because our library was still in boxes from the move.

Week 2 of classes and it's starting to feel real

We're in week two of classes, we did so much this week: figure drawing, life studies, reading, larding exercises

Justine brought out skulls, bottles and other still life material and had them working on form and light and value.

and by the end, we were resting and settling into the group, and the space, and all was feeling really good.
