You probably heard we’ve recently made a big move over to the Mighty Network, a group sharing platform where the SAW community can share, workshop and develop ideas.

Every week we’ll bring you snippets from both the public and private groups. Otherwise, the SAW online community is available 24/7, wherever you are in the world. You just have to join us.

TUESDAY COMICS INSPIRATION

This last week was rife with comics inspiration including some graphic novel suggestions from Gineen Cooper, including ‘Brazen’ by Penelope Bagieu, ‘Hey Kiddo’ by Jarrett Krosoczka, and ‘My Favourite Thing is Monsters’ by Emil Ferris

We share comics inspiration every Tuesday, but we’re also taking suggestions for books to add to our library shelves.

FREE RESOURCES

Barefoot Justine is getting ready to launch six short courses in inking, but some of her material can be found in our free resources section.

How to Copy the Great Masters is an essential part of her teaching, following her legacy of seeking out her favourite artists. Here she talks with Tom about the process of pitching and sketching and developing a full-format newspaper annual report for the city of Gainesville.

IN FLOW

Heads, faces and characters in this weeks comics flow group!

The goal was to study faces a bit more and use the versatility of these actors to consider expression and character in a narrative.

Do you use photographs as reference in your drawing?

FROM THE MEMOIR GROUP

This weeks memoir group exercise jumped off from Sarah Glidden’s impression of Hilma AF Klint’s recent show in New York.

What do you think? How would you respond to this exhibition in comics form?
