Explode the Rules of the Page!

We’re a little late with our weekly round-up this week. We’ve been VERY busy in the studio with our teen-tween class, and online with the start of the storytelling FLOW workshop.

The Mighty Network has been equally busy and here’s just the surface of it.

TUESDAY COMICS INSPIRATION

Thanks Tom for sharing this review of Mark Connery’s ‘Rudy’, a bunch of “silly, anarchic comics” the deserve the close attention given by the Comics Journal.

FREE RESOURCES

Have you had a chance to look through the free resources on SAW’s website?

If not, try starting exploding the rules of the page with a great catalogue of unconventional page layouts by artists throughout time.

IN FLOW

Join us for our latest prompt: a three-page silent sci-fi comic. So far we’ve got space funghi (pictured, thanks Michelle), time travel and talking heads. What otherworldly story would you want to tell?

FROM THE MEMOIR GROUP

In an age of self-care where do comics, and comics memoir, fit in?

Well, Austin Kleon is letting us know that writing and drawing self has huge therapeutic benefit (which all of us who write and draw regularly know).

THIS WEEK IN THE STUDIO

If you’re looking to be intimidated into a flurry of comics productivity, spent a week with eighteen teens and tweens determined to make comics in all its possible forms. The image here depicts a translation of Romeo and Juliet’s balcony scene.

Keep an eye out for the complete collection and the upcoming show here in Gainesville!
