In this class, participants will learn watercolor techniques including wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, dry brush, and more.
There will be a penciled comic available for folks to paint, so no drawing is required, but participants are welcome to bring their own drawings to paint!
Come play with watercolor and explore how it can bring your comics to life!
Artists of all levels welcome!

When, Where, & Who?

—-> Who: Artists of all levels interested in comics! Limited to 40 participants per session.
What You’ll Learn and What You’ll Need
In this three-hour in-person workshop, Carly Shooster will guide participants through essential watercolor techniques like wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, and dry brush—and show how each can be used expressively in comics storytelling. Whether you’ve never picked up a brush or you’ve dabbled before, this class is designed to be accessible, fun, and process-focused.
A penciled comic will be provided for everyone to paint, so no drawing is required—but feel free to bring your own comics or drawings to color if you'd like.
This is a great way to loosen up, try something new, and spend the afternoon making beautiful messes with fellow comics lovers.
Class size is limited to 40 participants. Subject to cancellation if minimum enrollment isn’t met.

about the INSTRUCTOR
Carly Shooster is a Jewish American cartoonist in Gainesville, Florida. She is the Assistant Director at Sequential Artists Workshop and is currently working on her first graphic novel, Mamita, to be published by Fieldmouse Press in Winter 2027.
