UPCOMING IN-PERSON @ SAW

Welcome to SAW, there is so much to do and get to know! We have a variety of folks that join us for all of these events, from all over Gainesville. We love to bring people together for comics.

SEQUENTIAL ARTISTS WORKSHOP PRESENTS:

WORD OF MOUTH

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 7 - 10 PM

First and foremost, TOMORROW NIGHT is our Word of Mouth event, featuring comics readings, animation presentations, and live music. Last year, this event was entirely too well attended, and I expect the same for tomorrow!

Taking place at GFAA Gallery & our SAW studio, we expect a full house, full bellies, and lots of laughs.

COMICS 4 TEENS —> LAST TWO CLASSES THIS WEEKEND NOVEMBER 16 + 17, 10 AM - 12 PM

This weekend, we are hosting our last two classes of the Fall semester for our COMICS 4 TEENS program. I’m stoked. One of the teens, Sophia, came up with the idea to adapt fairytales for comics. She’s a genius.

Additionally, we are starting this class back up on Sundays, January 13-February 16. Getting to see the kiddos make their own worlds, use their own colors, and their own language is thrilling even if I don’t always understand exactly what they are saying.

SAW FIELD TRIP —> THE REPURPOSE PROJECT

NOVEMBER 23, 11 AM - 1 PM

The Repurpose Project is a non-profit community based effort to divert useful resources from the landfill, redirect these items to the public for art and education, inspire creativity, and help us all rethink what we throw away. In short, they are a junk shop that specializes in material not accepted by traditional thrift stores. They are creating a circular economy for these hard to handle materials. Buying used is good for the earth. Let's all help protect the planet and buy USED!

SAW folks will get together to look at all Repurpose has to offer, come up with a way to turn it into a gift, and check off at least ONE loved one for this holiday season.

FIGURE DRAWING FOR COMICS WITH MORT ROBERTSON @ SAW STUDIO

DECEMBER 5, 8-10 PM

Mort Robertson, an local cartoonist and zinester, will be walking folks through a holistic figure drawing session that is led with comics in mind. Mort will walk folks through composition, figure placement, value judgments, and so much more. The figure will be clothed, and a maximum of 15 participants is what SAW can hold.

Check out Mort’s work here and stay tuned for more about this event.

SAW FIELD TRIP —> THE LYNX BOOKS & DRAW JAM

DECEMBER 7

FIELD TRIP: 11 AM - 1 PM @ THE LYNX BOOKS

DRAW JAM: 2 - 4 PM, @ SAW STUDIO

SAW Field trips are a great way to get to know people and get out of the studio for a bit. Especially if you’ve been working on any kind of longer project. On December 7, we are spending the afternoon at The Lynx books to have coffee, sketch outside, and check out their selection. The Lynx is one of our sponsors for PANEL PALOOZA!

After that, we’ll be getting together at SAW Studio for Draw Jam from 2-4 PM. I usually put R&B on in the background. It’s very chill!
