DRAW JAMS @ SAW STUDIO

Have you ever felt super isolated on a weekend when you’re trying to finish up a chapter for your graphic novel? Or isolated when you’re sketching that new idea for the 8-page mini zine you want to table at the local zine fest? Or just plain isolated in your art practice, no matter what the art is?

For years, SAW has offered a FREE and MONTHLY DRAW JAM for our Gainesville locals at the SAW Studio. Making art can sometimes be a lonely trade, so why not share what you’re working on with us?

Every first Saturday of the month, from 2-4 PM, SAW hosts Draw Jams. In these Draw Jams, locals come together with art, conversation, and laughter. Sometimes, someone brings watermelon or cookies or fizzies. Sometimes, someone can’t quite shake the flow of a certain page and needs the advice of a seasoned comics veteran also attending to take a look at the panels. I know that when I go, I’m working on my graphic novel and I have so much left to do. But I get to complain about it with other artists who get it, get me, and get the process of feeling overwhelmed by a longterm project.

Predominantly attended by adults, folks of all ages and art levels are welcome. The only organized activity is making progress in some way, shape, or form on something: a piece of scratch paper with a one panel comic, a crocheted hat, a comic, a performance art piece that needs an initial viewing, who knows! Share a couple of hours with friends and strangers alike, get reviews from peers on what you’re working on, and make some new friends in our community along the way.

Do you feel alone in your practice and live in Gainesville? Reach out to Carly at carly@sequentialartistsworkshop.org and we can find a way to make sure you have community at the same as an art practice!
