Comics for TEENS!

OCTOBER 5 - NOVEMBER 16, 2024

Are you a Gainesville local?

Are you a parent of a teen?

Is your kid just begging you to get more involved here at SAW?

Look no further! We have the perfect programming for you and your family!

Starting in October, SAW is offering Saturdays 10 AM - 12 PM for TEENS! This class is for teens aged 11-18 that are interested in starting, continuing and/or maintaining their practice in comics. This class will serve both as an instructional course and studio time for teens to work on their comic ideas.

The aim of this class is comprised of the following:

  1. Teach participants the basics of comics such as panel flow, panel layout, drawing for comics, and lettering

  2. Bring local SAW teens together to make art in community with one another

  3. Strengthen their art practice within and without comics whether that includes illustration, design, or writing.

I’ve seen firsthand how this class has made total strangers turn into lasting lifelong friendships for the youngins of Gainesville. Teens get to experience a class like no other: no homework, no math (except for measuring panels!), and absolutely no TESTS!

I have had the pleasure of teaching this class three times, and each time, the kids become more confident and excited about the comics they create. I get to see pre-teens grow into full blown teenagers, and they are not nearly as scary as TV portrays! I absolutely love teaching this class, the kids are all so happy to be together, even the shier bunches, because we have come together for a shared purpose: COMICS.

Sign up today and get your kid in the fold of our SAW Studio!
